In reply to Ceil. don't you love the image of the pond! That one really spoke to me too. It has been interesting to read all the comments and see all the downloads about the topic of letting go. I have been amazed how this was such a pain point for many of us. I think I need to do more work on this through my writing. not sure where it will lead to but definitely a place people struggle with. me too. Yes Humans are interesting, frustrating and so wonderful all rolled into one. reminds me to be gentle with myself and with others. We are all imperfect and on this journey towards God. Hi Jean! Wow, that Julia Cameron is very far advanced in her spiritual life. I can only hope that I can get there someday.
I love the letting go theme though. So much time is spent lamenting what’s lost or gone, and really, it might be gone for a very good reason.
I don’t want to be stagnant, but taking the first step can be hard too. Humans are so interesting, aren’t we? Just a bunch of conundrums! I liked the idea of not being able to see the bigger future if I stay in my little pond. I just ask Jesus to give me a wee bit of a kick now and again to get me going!

There is much to ponder in the Julia Cameron quote. At age 68 I do feel an urgency to live life purposefully, making myself available for the opportunities God has planned for me. I don’t want to waste time, but neither do I want to rush. I want follow God’s guidance in the pacing of my life, the way she does. Thank you for providing SO much food for thought/journaling here, Jean!

The theme of letting go is so perfectly aligned with what I’m feeling called to do, and I so appreciate the tools and inspiration you’re providing to help me with that journey. I felt particularly drawn to many of these quotes, but one in particular was from Lao Tzu:

“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be. When I let go of what I have, I receive what I need.”

I will be using your suggested exercises to reflect on this.

I also found myself drawn to several quotes that either stated or alluded to the need to embrace paradox. I like certainty, but at age 67, I cannot avoid the truth that certainty is both rare and elusive—and greatly overrated. Parker Palmer writes about this a lot, and I appreciate his honesty and vulnerability.

The quotes you shared here, Jean, are all amazing, but I found myself drawn to the one by Frederick Buechner. “We find by losing. We hold fast by letting go . . .” This reminds me of what Jesus said – anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it.
