I'm always encouraged by your silent retreats, Jean. I actually looked up the retreat options a couple weeks ago at the monastery an hour from me. They're still quite restrictive, but maybe in a few months I can schedule something for myself there. I agree that being at home is just too tempting to be distracted. I love your final advice: "Don’t get bogged down with these details though. The most important item to have ready and bring with you is this: An open and willing heart – receptive to God."

Thanks Linda. I know it helped me to think this through each time before retreat and I thought it may encourage others who never tried one before to consider this practice.

Yep, this is so true, Jean - ' I am tempted by the routines, the to-do list, and the “maybe I can get just one load of wash done.”

This is such a comprehensive guide ... all in one post! This is sure not only to inform but inspire us to take the extra steps to care for our souls and give God the time that is due Him.

Thanks.

As I think I've mentioned here before, Jean, I've never been on a silent retreat. However, for the next few days, as Danny is traveling to see his son graduate from Airmen Leadership School, I do have the house all to myself. At first, I was afraid that the quiet would just be too much for me to handle, but now that I've read your blog today, I'm seeing how I can use this time of solitude so wisely. Your words were exactly the comfort I needed!
Blessings!
