Happy Wednesday to you too, Ceil. Hope your new year is starting off great. You have a valid point that at times God is quiet – too quiet. Remembering daily we are his children though helps me to know his love. Dependence? good insight. too often I do rely on my own strength – I can do it myself – or the approval of others. I think as we grow older we find ourselves more and know it is ok to follow the path we are called towards whether it is travelled or not. So good to hear from you Irene

In reply to Martha Orlando. Amazing how we look elsewhere for that validation and miss God at first. My prayer is for all people to find him. I have a dear friend who told us last week there is no God. I am heart broken. but continue to pray and now God is nudging me to stay also as his friend. At some point he will need to talk so I want to keep that door open. Pray for me on this please, dear Martha. It lays heavy on my heart.

Hi Jean! This is a wonderful reflection on validation. I do think we are human, and need direction. We look to God for it, but sometimes He is mighty quiet. So instead of waiting for Him, we turn to each other.
I don’t think that’s a bad thing. After all, God wants to use us to do His work. But I think the key is dependence, don’t you? Don’t get dependent on others to bolster you. Be grateful for when it comes, but realizing that God has the ultimate say. And He says, “You’re wonderful!”

Interesting and worthwhile topic, Jean! Validation and value do seem to go hand in hand. If I receive validation for who I am or something I did, then I feel like my life has value–at least for that moment. Problem is, that feeling of satisfaction fades and soon I’m looking to be validated again. Keeping my focus on GOD and his evaluation of me is paramount to escaping the vicious cycle. I’ve found helpful a quote from my Life Application Study Bible: “Your value comes from being one of God’s children, not from what you can achieve. You have worth because of what GOD DOES, not because of what you do.” (note to 1 Peter 2:9).

Thank you. I learned a long time ago how to follow Robert Frost’s advice and walk along the road less traveled. Often, I’ve found that people want to “belong” and therefore adhere to the group’s social norms – regardless of how they may feel or what they need to do to belong (i.e. validation). So, before I walk down an off-the-beaten path, I check in with myself and ask if taking this path will matter in a year or more? If it does, then I take it. If not, then I save it for a rainy day.

Years ago, I was a victim of the need to be validated by others. It is the epitome of chaos for the soul; I walked around looking fine on the outside, but on the inside, I was as twisted and contorted as a pretzel. It wasn’t until God knocked on my door and I said, “Yes, come in,” that all that began to change.
He is truly all the validation we need or should ever desire. Great thoughts here, Jean! Blessings!
