I hear you, Jean! I tend to be sentimental about stuff. Hard to part with things that are full of memories. However, we've moved eleven times, forcing us to pare down our belongings each time. It's a painful but productive process!

Happy Sunday, Nancy. I am excited so many of you all want to come along with me on this exploration of simplicity. Really says something about the culture and time we are in, doesn't it? I know it won't come easy to me - I am a creature of habit and love my stuff. LOL.

Appreciate these definitive thoughts about simplicity: a sense of space and openness in life; the practice of honoring time, relationships, nature and God. Also: "Simplicity offers feeling present and savoring the blessings we have." And since I so easily get wrapped up in the to-do list, this statement spoke hope to me: "Simplicity is a discipline because we have to work at it and practice it in order to apply it in our lives." In other words, don't become discouraged if it doesn't come naturally! But I can see the result is well worth the effort. Looking forward to becoming more simple!! :-)

In reply to <a href="https://healthyspirituality.org/searching-spiritual-practice-simplicity/#comment-7764">Martha Orlando</a>.

doesn't that concept simplify simplicity? I know that was the focus of my prayers this morning. Have had quite a bit happen this past two week - mostly good stuff - but just a lot of discernment - I kept hearing God say one day at a time. Keep it simply. I smiled knowing that was this month's topic. I don't think a coincidence. have a great weekend, Martha

Thanks Pearl. I will have to find that book and read it too. Finding the older Richard Foster one right on my own shelf was such God-timing. I think this is a topic quite a few of us want to learn more about.

I love the concept of simplicity being that focus on God first; all else will fall into place, and what we really don't need in our lives will fall away in the process. I'm really looking forward to this series on simplicity, Jean - great topic!
Blessings!

Oh, I'd forgotten about Freedom of Simplicity! It's been so long since I've read that. Likely do for a re-read now! :) Thanks, Jean. Love this topic so much. “Simplicity is a spiritual discipline that reorients one’s life by deliberately organizing it for a purpose.”

Great post! I just got a book by Susan V. Vogt, BLESSED BY LESS. So I think we are both on the same wave length. I am trying to let go of "stuff", and getting my physical world in order; as I strive to grow spiritually. God is showing me the way. Thanks for this timely blog on a subject that I am trying to embrace.
