I know I know Nancy. stillness does not come naturally to most of us but can be learned at least one small slow step at a time. At least I am going to keep trying.

Add me to the list of stillness-strugglers! I have sputtered through sessions with a journal, specifically to listen to God within my spirit and record the impressions he plants there. Sometimes, the words come quite easily; other times I flounder. But the effort seems important as a means of moving in close to our Father's heart--something we all deeply desire. Thank you, Jean, for your sweet honesty and for sharing what you've gleaned about stillness before God. Downloading that list of tips right now!

Thsoe puppies made quite a difference for me in centering prayer. The key though has been the more I take the time in prayer, the better I get quiet. hope you are having a great week.

I love the puppy analogy, Jean, and I'll certainly download the tips you've offered here. Yes, I have to admit that I need to make myself engage in centering prayer more often. Like you, it is difficult to push all the distracting thoughts out of my head, but maybe if I imagine them as puppies, I'll have more success.
Blessings!

After several years of centering prayer, I *may* have noticed it comes a little easier. :) So I agree with this, Jean: "The more I practiced stillness, my stillness muscle strengthened." Although I still consider myself a beginner.

I love the puppy analogy. That has more relevance to me too, than the monkeys. :) Another important post from you!
