This year, the zinnias are filling their garden spot. The butterflies are coming – and my grandchildren enjoy it. I love summer and the slow down to savor of it! Sometimes I need to remind myself of that truth, when I laze on the deck, watching the trees clap their hands in the breeze (Isaiah 55:12), feeling that breeze on my skin, listening to the rise and fall of the cicadas’ low buzz, reveling in the aroma of freshly-mown grass. This is NOT a waste of time! It’s an opportunity to glory in God’s creation and savor his gifts of nature. / You ask an intriguing question about what I’m most grateful for in summer. My list would also include our deck–especially when I can enjoy my quiet time out there early in the morning. Also on the list: walks with our son’s family to the gelato shop not far from their house, sweet corn and farm-grown tomatoes!

I always look forward to the longer daylight that summer brings, with all the fresh fruits and vegetables. I also enjoy being able to turn on TV and watch my favorite summer pastime of baseball whether my team wins or losses.
