I am sure my ego was in the way and I was hearing God clearly. He just needed to tell me one more time and certainly did. I have had times when I just wasn't sure I was hearing God clearly but in hindsight this wasn't one of the them. Yes you are right about being human. I need to be gentle with myself and offer grace to this fragile soul too. LOL

have a great week.

Hi Jean! I think I know why you went back and forth. It seems to me that when I hear a good opportunity, I wonder if that's God knocking. You seemed to know through your discernment that the answer was 'no'. But we're human! Who's to say it's just the mood we're in?
I'm glad that you can see how accurate your cat-filled gut is. What a blessing to know!
If you say the block is your ego, I believe you. But I wonder if that's really it? Well, I guess it doesn't matter, you made a wonderful choice. Thank you for sharing this struggle, I am reviewing some of the choices I have made lately too.
Blessings,
Ceil

I wonder Jen those of us who have some knowledge of discernment, its process and how it evolves get more distracted by the head and the ego than those who may react sooner with their gut/heart. makes me wonder. Have a great weekend, good friend!

I really think, Nancy, trusting our gut usually works out. Another way of listening to God like you said. God of our gut. LOL..
That Merton quote is one of my favorites.

Glad i am not alone, Martha. You understand my relief when he called back with someone else taking the job. I was amazed though the depth of my greed and ego on this one. good lessons, like I said.

Thank you, Jean, for sharing the story of your struggle. May we learn from your experience to "trust our gut" because that's where God often speaks on these occasions--somewhere down deep within. And thank you for that Thomas Merton quote. Very meaningful! Appreciate that little nugget of encouragement he tucked into the middle: that God is pleased with our DESIRE to please him. We don't have to be perfect to make God smile.

A few years back, I found myself in this exact predicament; didn't want to disappoint the person, but knew my heart wasn't in the offer. The best decision I made was to bow out as gracefully as I could and move on. Oh, such a weight was lifted off my heart!
Blessings, Jean!
