Good conversation to have with family. That would be a good point to add to this consideration. Knowing why you write in the journal starts the whole process off on the right note. I do hope my family does treasure my words some day or at least one may. I know I cherish my Aunt Anna's journals.

I've had the conversation with my husband to destroy my private journals if he outlives me. ;) I often fear writing things down because I'm afraid others will read them. There are times I'll write though with the intention of immediately deleting it as soon as I finish if I know it will contain things that could hurt someone else's feelings if they ever did find it. I do have some journals that I keep (like my 1 Line a Day journals) that I don't care who reads them. Your family will have a treasure trove one day with your journals, Jean!

I've not been a faithful journal keeper in the traditional sense, except for the record of God's faithfulness kept since 1983. Oh--and one journal survived from the 1970s. I've also saved a stack of the best Bible study workbooks (and files for studies without workbooks) which include questions of reflection, written prayers, and other personal matter. Then there are other journals for other purposes: meaningful quotes, impressions from God, favorite scriptures and why (including the back-stories when appropriate). I recently started another journal to meditate through some of the old, beloved hymns. Among all of these there might be an embarrassing confession here or there, but I've never written down anything inappropriate for others to read. With you, Jean, I've kept in mind that any day someone ELSE might be browsing through these journals, notebooks, and workbooks! But I pray that what they do happen to read might be of encouragement for their life journeys.

Yes and your blog posts are wonderful! Occasionally I have copied something I wrote here on the blog and put it into my journal as it captured where I was spiritually at that time or a ah-ha or life lesson,

Instead of keeping a journal, I have channeled much of my reflections and observations into my blog. I do have some journals from past years that I definitely need to revisit and see if I want to keep them or not. There are good reasons for keeping/destroying, depending on our outlook.
Blessings, Jean!

Thank you Jean- I love to get my thoughts out on journals- however, I have so many unfinished pages in MANY😳!

I love what your life examples in knowing how to hear the whispers of God in your seasons of life- and best yet, you write them and pass them down to generations. How wonderful you live a lifestyle not looking at your self only, but down through the ages of your grands and great great grands , for God’s purposes.
