From a Jewish perspective, you're supposed to thank God for everything that happens in your life (both good and bad). So, before you eat, you say a prayer - usually the Motzi. After you're finished eating, you praise God by saying Brichat HaMazon. If you obtain a new item (jewelry, clothing, etc.), you recite a blessing. Also, you pray to God three times a day.

The hard part is being truly thankful and not turning the above prayers into rote.

In reply to Lynn Mosher.

Thanks Lynn. I know I too often rush into and out of my time with God. When I remember to cherish the communion, I slow down and spend a few wordless moments of love with our Creator.

In reply to Lisa notes....

You and I are thinking alike. I don't like to say I only connect with God at this certain time. shouldn't we be praying all the time and walking continually with him. I know these little pockets of time help me practice that.

I too am a goal setter but hadn't really thought of intermediary goals for my spiritual goals. good idea. Compassion is a great word of the year. wow that could open all sorts of opportunities for you.

Thanks for your kind word, Lisa, Have a blessed weekend

# 2 "Choices" gets me. My small pockets of time could just as easily be filled with important things as important, if I'd just choose correctly.

One thing that helps me is to create a list of goals (although I know that doesn't work for everybody). Since my One Word this year is Compassion, I've listed several intermediary goals along the way to prompt me to see more with the Lord's eyes instead of my own. When I don't list, I drift.

This is a great post, Jean, and one that many of us will grow from. Thanks for using your time to write it! Good choice. :)
