“This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord.
“I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts.
I will be their God, and they will be my people.
No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord.
“For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
Jeremiah 31: 33-34
I will be their God, and they will be my people.
Lord, we belong to each other.
Our relationship is not just one-sided, where one of us is beholden to the other.
We behold each other.
You are my God.
I am one of Your people.
Actually one of Your children. I like that.
Belonging means we are a fit, we match, we stay connected even though I may drift away from You.
To know I have a place with You, a shelter from life’s storms and dwelling from being battered by uncertain winds.
A hand to grasp in the darkness and a Shepherd who will seek me when I get lost.
I am never alone.
I am loved.
I belong to Someone.
I belong to You, Lord.
Nothing can break our bond.
You have taken this promise and written in on my heart, tattooed this guarantee to my soul, and forever seared your pledge within me to be my God forever.
The magnitude of this overwhelms me and I humbly bow before You.
I cannot even begin to grasp the width and depth of Your love nor comprehend the full meaning of this promise – that God Almighty Himself would promise this to mere mortals.
To be our God and to call us as His people.
To belong with one another forever.
To belong only to You, Lord God.
Love the idea of “yes” to God. great line.
Thank you for your comments. Glad we have connected
Hi Jean. I found your blog through the Hear It, Use It community and appreciate this “mantra.” We confirmed 6 girls in church yesterday and our pastor said “this is your ‘yes’ to the God who has already said ‘yes’ to you.”
I love knowing I belong to God. I spoke about that on one of my retreat talks. “Who do we belong to?” was the question I kept asking. Do we kwow whose we are? When we know who we belong to, that makes all the difference doesnt it?
Glad you liked the song on my blog post.
God bless!
