Clothing Ourselves with Christ – Lectio Divina

September 4, 2011 By Jean Wise

Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. Romans 13:14

Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ

Lord, You came to us in the garden when we were ashamed to be naked.
Throughout history and in our individual lives, we try to clothe ourselves with dirty rags and tattered second-hand clothing.
We pick up the first piece of gossip to cover our heads.
We hid our faces behind worldly masks so we don’t appear to others as we really are.
We throw on the easiest road to follow for our tops.
We pull up our fears and ego driven desires to cover our legs.
And for our feet we slip on ill-fitting slices of sin we think You won’t know about and tie them tightly with lies and deceit.
Help us discard these earthly garments and come only to You in our vulnerable bareness.
Clothe us with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Wash us with Your mercy and cover us with Your goodness.
May we be fully draped in Jesus’ character, virtues and wisdom.
Wrap Your divine attire around us to warm us as only Your love can do.
Help us put on Your heavenly armor to protect others and ourselves from the evil one.
Give us swift running shoes to carry your message to those hungering to know You better.
Fit us as You see best as I am sure with You as our tailor, what we wear will be custom made, will never fade and be lovingly laid upon us.

Love this, “what we wear will be custom made”. What a cool thought – God is weaving a cloak of character unqiue to our stage and point in our walk.

Great thoughts and words to meditate upon…how will I clothe myself? Thank you, Jean 🙂

Thank you all for your comments and visiting this blog. The image of shedding everything before God and clothing myself with Him has been powerful for me.

That’s the kind of closet I want to choose my clothes from! Beautiful.

Beautiful reflection. God asked Adam and Eve – who told you that you were naked? He never wanted them to be ashamed. Now we have Jesus. Amen.

This is really precious and convicting all at the same time. I’m fully mulling over your words — how will I clothe myself today?

Jean, This is so good- the thoughts and the writing.Thank you. I pray I will be more concerned with clothing myself with Christ and less with this earthly body. You know I truly need to remember this. Clella
