Then out comes the highlighter to dazzle my eyes with their message.
I’ve rewritten them word by word in my journal, then wrote them once again in my own language.
I’ve typed their words and hung them by my computer to remember to repeat them until they are scorched on my heart.
Certain Bible verses that call out to me – “Take me, I’m yours.”
I’ve tasted their sweetness and chewed on their meaning for me.
Here are five verses that bring me closer to God and draw me into his spirit.
1. Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses,
let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.
And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

Wow, that was so hard narrowing the selection of verses down to five. I knew right away the first one would be included since it is my life verse (do you have a life verse?) but choosing the rest was difficult.

Nancy you mentioned something that is good to point out. Different seasons in our lives different verses will touch us. Wouldn’t that be a fun thing to track as we age?

Psalms 18:36 – You enlarged my path under me,So my feet did not slip.
Psams 91 – that talks of the safety of hiding in the Lord.
Song of Solomon 2:2 – [ The Beloved ] Like a lily among thorns, So is my love among the daughters.
I’ve had different favorite verses during various chapters of my life. Here’s a current favorite: “Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O Lord. They rejoice in your name all day long; they exult in your righteousness, for you are their glory and strength (Psalm 89:16-17a).

Yes, it is very hard to narrow it down. The first one that came to mind is 2 Peter 1:3–“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” It is so encouraging to know that we do have the power to live the lives He has called us to live.
God keeps putting Ephesians 3:20 in front of me! So good to see it again on your list Jean. 🙂
Isaiah 40:31 and Jeremiahs 29:11 are two verses I turn to often.
