Gentleness – Lectio Divina

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.  Philippians 4: 4-9

Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.
Lord these verses are packed with meaning. These words of Yours are some of my favorite to ponder.
When I heard them in church this morning and read them once again later, one phrase jumped into my heart.
Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.

How could I not be gentle when You are near?
Your spirit spills over with gentleness.
If I am truly paying attention to Your presence, I too would reflect that gentleness onto others.
Holy Spirit I ask You for gentleness. Lavish Your gentleness upon me.
When others see me, may they see You in my acts, my voice, my listening.
I am so grateful You the God of Nearness.
You don’t leave us.
You don’t forget us.
You don’t wander off paying attention to some other world.
You are near.
May the warmth of Your presence melt the ice in my heart
Let me learn from You in Your presence.
Let Your gentleness seep over me and permeate every cell.
May I be a gentle servant of a near God.

    GReat passage isn’t it? I know the Bible is HIs living word but it never seems to amaze me to read it again with fresh eyes and discover just the right word or phrase that feeds my heart. Thanks everyone!

    I used part of this scripture verse on a post once and it remains a favorite. It was titled, “Whatever is lovely…” Oh, how I love to ponder the good things that God has to offer us! Thanks for all of these wonderful thoughts today.

    One of my favorite’s too, Jean — although I have never keyed in on that particular phrase before. You are so right. How is it that we breed the opposite of gentleness when we are in his presence?

    I feel a great attractiveness to gentleness and from your comments makes me aware how much it is needed in our world. Maybe this is something we all can work on

    Gentleness is so needed these days – we long for others to treat us gently – but struggled to be gentle with others and ourselves. Great reminders.
