God’s Invitation: Lectio Divina

March 3, 2013 By Jean Wise

If you are thirsty, there’s water for all.

Whoever is poor and penniless can still come and buy the food I sell.

There’s no cost—here, have some food, hearty and delicious, and beverages, pure and good.

I don’t understand why you spend your money for things that don’t nourish or work so hard for what leaves you empty.

Attend to Me and eat what is good; enjoy the richest, most delectable of things.

Listen closely, and come even closer.

My words will give life, for I will make a covenant with you that cannot be broken, a promise of My enduring presence and support like I gave to David.

See, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander among the nations.

Now you will issue a call to nations from all over the world – people whom you do not know and who do not know you.

They will come running,

because of Me, your God because the Eternal, the Holy One of Israel,

has made you beautiful.

Isaiah 55: 1-5 (The Voice)

come here; come
come even closer.
your God

has made you beautiful

Do I need to send my RSVP, Lord?
You tell me to come.
You invite me even closer
How could I not race into Your arms?
My soul is dry without You.
I drink in Your spirit and bask in Your light.
I feast at Your table and delight in Your dance.
I bow in Your presence and know I am Yours.
You are God, the Almighty.
My Lord.
God the Savior.
My Savior.
God, the Creator.
My Creator
God the Father
My Father.
I draw closer to You and hear you whisper words I scarcely believe, but desperately yearn to know:
You have made me beautiful.
Me, Lord?
Beautiful?
I come to your party,
yet I am the one who receives the priceless gift.
Your invitation to wholeness found only in You.

You know that line struck me too. We try to fill those empty places in our souls with other things instead of allowing that space for God. I struggle with this too. Thanks for commenting. Your thoughts added depth to my prayer

I agree with you completely, Nancy. Days I ignore Him and even run far from Him. He understands though and continue to invite us and draw us to Him. What a gracious God we have

“I don’t understand why you spend your money for things that don’t nourish or work so hard for what leaves you empty.” –

Every now and then we just need to really have a reality check about this. At the end of life, when moments are priceless and the accumulated things we have are worthless, The love that endures are centered around holding a soft hand, sharing a wonderful meal, the comfort you received from a friend, and the privilege of sharing your faith with someone who needs hope. Good word, be blessed.

And yet. There are days–seasons even, when I don’t race toward him. But he is patient, so patient. And continues to extend his invitation.

Oh. Jean, after this delightful invitation, who would ever even think of hesitating to run into His Loving Embrace. But what is even better, is that invitation to come even closer and closer and closer until we are totally lost in His love. Beautiful!!!! Thank you.
    Bless you, dear friend
    Mia
