Do I not see what happens in secret?
Am I not everywhere, filling heaven and earth?
I have heard these prophets who speak lies in My name. They say, “I had a dream, I had a dream,” and claim it was Me speaking to them!
How long will this go on?
Will the hearts of these lying prophets ever change?
How long will they deceive themselves and all who listen to them?
They think they can make My people forget My name with all this talk of dreams—just as their ancestors forgot My name as they worshiped Baal.
If a prophet has a dream, he should tell others of that dream.
But the one who has My word should speak it with unshakable faith.
For what is straw worth, when compared to grain?
Does not My word burn like fire?
Does it not shatter rock like a strong hammer?
Jeremiah 23:23-29
The Voice
Lord, you ask lots of questions this week for me to ponder.
Am I only a God who is close by, and not a God of the farthest reaches?
Yes Lord, you are everywhere!
Am I a God anyone can hide from?
You know where I am at all times. Your eyes embrace me in love, never out of your view.
Do I not see what happens in secret?
You hold the past, the present, and the future.
Am I not everywhere, filling heaven and earth?
You are the God of everything, in all and the creator of all.
How long will this go on?
Only you, Lord know the time.
Will the hearts of these lying prophets ever change?
We can’t be transformed without you.
How long will they deceive themselves and all who listen to them?
Lord I listen too much to the deceit of the world and the chatter of my wayward ways. Help me to hear you clearer.
Does not My word burn like fire?
Your living word sparks new life within my heart and your spirit sets me ablaze.
Does it not shatter rock like a strong hammer?
I rely on your strength to clear my path, Lord.
I ponder your questions in wonder and gratitude today, Lord.
I am amazed as usually I am the one inquiring of you and here you query me.
Thank you for stirring my desire to grow closer to you through your asking and drawing me deeper.
PS to today’s post:
I read this poem today and it fit so well to today’s lectio divina I decided to add it:
It seems to me Lord
that we search much too desperately for answers,
when a good question holds as much grace as an answer.
Jesus,
you are the Great Questioner.
Keep our questions alive,
that we may always be seekers rather than settlers.
Guard us well from the sin of settling in
with our answers hugged to our breasts.
Make of us a wondering, far-sighted, questioning, restless people
And give us the feet of pilgrims on this journey unfinished.
~~Macrina Wiederkehr
Isn’t it awesome how even God’s questions are to build us up by having us look inside and proclaim who He is, what He has done, and what we are trusting Him for. Lovely post.
HI Lynn, Thanks for stopping by yesterday. I too really have enjoyed reading more verses in the voice, the NIV, The Message and the Voice – are my three go-go versions right now. Have a wonderful week, Lynn
I often write down my questions in my journal and you know I always feel an openness to talk with God about them. I think he likes the conversation rather than me ignoring him. Blessings on your week, Ceil
I pellet God with questions all the time and feel He certainly is open to them and loves chatting with me about them. Great way to grow! Blessings on your week, Mia
Oh, wonderful post, dear Jean! I’ve come to really like The Voice version. I love how different versions make me think. I
Hi Jean! It’s good to point out that the Lord asks us questions, and that he invites ours. You know a conviction is ‘fake’ if it doesn’t invite questions.
We can’t know everything, we just can’t. So we try by question and answer, and it’s all glorious seeking our God. He loves it!
Happy Sunday Jean!

Year Jean
