Holy Week Scripture Lessons – Lectio Divina

March 24, 2013 By Jean Wise

Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.

Luke 22: 39

Luke 22:14-23:56

Jesus went out as usual…

and his disciples followed him

Lord, so my lessons once again in this week’s long Scripture reading.
Yet it is a small phrase buried someplace in the middle of those many verses that draws me in.
Jesus went out as usual.

I almost missed it as I get tangled up in visions of the last supper, Peter’s denial, your tears in Gethsemane.
Jesus went out as usual.

Prayer is a powerful anchor in Your life, Lord
Again and again You left the crowds to pray in silence and solitude.
I read the other day, Lord, that too often we speak and write about faith in Jesus and ignore the faith of Jesus.
Prayer saturated Your faith.
Your priority was time alone with God.
You show us once again in this phrase and by Your actions where You found strength, direction and trust.
Your “usual” nourished Your faith.
Jesus went out as usual…

and his disciples followed him.

May I be like Your disciples and follow You.
Teach me more about Your faith, Lord.
May I follow Your lead that You modeled, by practicing Your usual, Your consistent spending time with our Father.
May I become more like You, Lord.

Those two words, Kendal, just jumped off the page and into my heart. Praying you have a blessed Holy week with lots of the Word of God coming alive for you

Your comment made me smile. Palm Sunday service was wonderful but I was so distracted by my twin grandsons. They are a delight and I love having them in church with us BUT at 20 months they often demand more attention than our patient loving God does. I know He understand and I praise and worship Him afterwards. Have a blessed Holy Week!

Awesome reflection. I think that’s my word for this week. Awesome.
It would be easy to miss this phrase you chose to reflect on. Very easy. His usual does feed our faith.
I chose the gospel before the gospel! The one we read for the procession of the palms. It’s the hosanna reading! That was different too for me to choose that one to reflect on.
Have a blessed Holy Week. .
