Simon answered, “Master, we have worked all night long but have caught nothing. Yet if you say so, I will let down the nets.”
Luke 5:5
Yet if you say so.
Lord, over the past year, You and I have been talking about this journey you invited me to take within the church.
I felt alone.
Lost.
Unclear.
Not sure where I was headed.
With little direction except for Your persistent call to proceed.
I worked hard like Simon did when he said, “Master, we have worked all night long.”
Simon sounded weary too.
I felt like I was accomplishing nothing.
“but have caught nothing.”
For a long time I couldn’t hear Your whisper or felt Your guidance, I just kept plowing forward, one step in front of another.
“Yet if you say so, I will.” Simon said.
“Yet if you say so, I will” became my prayer.
I don’t know where this will lead. All I know You said, “finish what you began.” Very much like “put down your nets.”
Lord, I don’t know if I will catch so many fish my nets will begin to break, but I do know Your voice.
I do know You are the Lord and if you ask, I will. You are in charge, not me.
Where I only see smelly empty nets, You create abundant outcomes.
Yet if You say so, I will.
If You say so, I will.
I will.
Ah Jean… One of the quintessential Bible Stories of Faith. “Yet if you say so…” is such a powerful statement to following Him against what we understand.
May we all be so obedient to His call, especially when we don’t see the plan.
Have a Blessed Day!
May this prayer bless you all this week. I know reading your comments has warmed my heart. May we all walk in His light and hear His voice.
If you say so, I will – I NEED this to be my prayer this week. Thanks!
I love your lectio pieces, Jean. They help me slow down and savor his word. “If you say so” is really powerful, if you think about it (as you have done so well here). It’s a succumbing, a trusting. A phrase I need to repeat to myself again and again.
Ahh, Jeanie, that’s the simplest, yet hardest thing to do.
Have a great Sunday.
