You are my friends when you do the things I command you.
I’m no longer calling you servants because servants don’t understand what their master is thinking and planning. No, I’ve named you friends because I’ve let you in on everything I’ve heard from the Father.
“You didn’t choose me, remember; I chose you, and put you in the world to bear fruit, fruit that won’t spoil. As fruit bearers, whatever you ask the Father in relation to me, he gives you.
“But remember the root command: Love one another.
John 15: 15-17
Wow, Lord, to be chosen by you to be a friend.
I am humbled and to be honest a little ill at ease.
I should feel loved and joy, but find deep inside me a wariness – What does this mean?
But you are always clear and honest. You tell us what you are thinking and planning. What am I to do as your friend?
You gently respond – Love one another.
Simple truth.
Difficult truth.
Love is the fruit I am to bring forth into the world.
Everything I do, think, believe boils down to love.
If it is not rooted in compassion and devotion, then I must let it go.
Why do we humans make this so difficult, Lord?
Why do we continue to choose misleading directions and false detours?
Here you are – teaching us clearly, lovingly and openly – just choose love.
If in doubt, do the most loving action I can.
If filled with worry and fears, focus more on love than anxiety.
If lonely and uncertain, remember who calls me friend – you.
What comfort that thought brings.
This is where my heart belongs. Where my soul resides. Only in you, Lord.
Friend.
Love.
Jesus.
Jean,
This struck me: ” focus more on love than anxiety.”…Wishing you a restorative weekend, my friend 🙂
Tank Dolly. Hope you have a refreshing weekend too.
Hi Jean! He truly is our ‘all in all’ isn’t He? Follow the love. Be the love. God is love. It’s pretty clear, but I can certainly fall down in doing it. Practice, practice, practice…
Happy Monday!
Ceil
all and all is so right. and love your practice, practice practice. Read the other day about how the desert mothers and fathers sole purpose was to seek for God. I liked that but believe he is already here. I think it is more being open to God, the all in all and experience him. Thanks Ceil
Amen! Why do we choose as humans to err when Jesus has put it out there simply, completely and compellingly? Great question, Jean, and one we should ask ourselves daily as we live out our Christian witness. Blessings!
Daily asking ourselves, Glad you pointed that out. Thanks Martha
