Love Will Lead the Way – Lectio Divina

February 3, 2013 By Jean Wise

We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist.

But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!

But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation:

Trust steadily in God,

hope unswervingly,

love extravagantly.

And the best of the three is love.

1 Corinthians 13: 12-13 (The Message)

Lord sometimes I can’t find You.
I look.
I listen.
I seek Your face and stain to hear even a tiny whisper.
I don’t see You in this fog of human living.
Like driving in a murky midst of grey, I get disoriented and confused.
I can’t wait until this haze lifts and I gaze directly into Your eyes.
But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation:

Trust steadily in God,

hope unswervingly,

love extravagantly.

And the best of the three is love.

But once again You do guide me and tell me what to do.
When I can’t see on this crazy highway of life, trust inch by inch, step by step in You.
When I don’t know where the road is leading, cling to the hope You give me.
And when answers to the hard questions seem out of reach, You remind me the only true response is love.
And not just to grudgingly loving the challenging person or circumstance, but
To love extravagantly.
As You lavish Your love upon me, may I share Your trust, hope and love with others.
Even when the unknown journey turns misty, scary, and unfamiliar.
Love will lead the way.

We have fog here again today. In our area school is delayed or cancelled more due to fog than snow! isn’t that strange? Glad this brought back memories from your Alp adventure too. WHat an adventure you had.

keep listening for the lessons. Can’t wait to hear your grandma news too

During the entire time I’ve been in western PA, I have been driving either through thick fog or persistent snow. Seriously. And I am probably nearly out of wiper fluid from trying to keep my windshield clear.

The hardest day of my hike in the Alps was the day we walked through cloud and fog. All. Day. Long. I really don’t like not being able to see more than a step ahead. You know, walking by faith and not by sight.

Seems there’s a lesson in there somewhere for me . Hmm .. .

I often read the scripture a second time in another translation and the Message is the first place I look for more insight. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment here!

I also love the verse where God lavishes his love on us. How blessed we are!

Often when I read scripture I peek at how the Message translates the words. Gives me new insight. Thanks for stopping by!

I agree with you on reading the Message. Sometimes it doesn’t ring right with me but often gives me that one extra word what opens the scripture for me in a new way. Thanks for stopping by!

Beautiful as usual. Love extravagantly – wow. And that is how God loves us – extravagantly.

Oh, Jean, this touched me deeply, for I sometimes battle to see God through the pain and exhaustion of Fm/CFS, but only as I give my spirit into His hands like Jesus did in the Garden of Gethsemane, can I feel Him carrying me.
    Much love
    Mia
