Did you know September 16-22, 2024, is Thinking of You Week? I had never heard of this week before until recently and think this is a rather cool week to promote and participate in. Yes, maybe it could be another “Hallmarky” reason to purchase a card, but really I think I will dig into my stationary drawer to find some pretty notecards and send some handwritten notes next week to friends I haven’t connected with for a while.
Thinking of You Week is sponsored by the Greeting Card Association – no surprise there – but it is a nice touch and reminder to be kind and spread some joy to one another. The world certainly could use some right now!
One challenge is to send 7 cards to 7 people over 7 days. That would be fun. A simple hello can brighten up someone’s day in so many ways. I like the idea of a note or card, but I think an unexpected email, phone call, lunch or visit could work as well. Human contact and interaction is lifegiving.
Letting your friend know you’ve been thinking about them can help them realize that they’re not alone. It’s a great way to start a conversation or begin a greetings card message.
Telling them they’ve been in your thoughts recently lets them know they have people they can rely on and turn to whenever they’re ready to talk. Simply being there for a friend that’s going through a tough time can make a big difference.
Let’s be kind and do something special and unexpected for another not just next week but all the time. Let’s reach out and connect with at least one person in September we haven’t talked with for a while and reconnect.
Who will you write to during Thinking of You week?
Great idea. A cute or pretty card in the mail is such a delight and you appreciate so much that someone took the extra time for you. A couple of years ago I started doing “How are you” phone calls to those I can never see (too far away) or seldom see…..which is rewarding time spent because you get valuable feed-back. I don’t think one way is better than the other because it’s the personal contact that is so important.
The “I care” moment. We all need to do a better job of “ministering” to those who especially need our contact. I appreciate your reminder of another way. Thank you
Thank you Sue, I sent two note today to a few people I hadn’t connected with for quite a while. Love that you use phone calls. That one to one contact is so important!
Nancy, I love your prompt! Each week or so I take a few hours to do all my paperwork, bills, and cards. I drag all the cards and stamps and Scripture cards and stickers and all the things out and then take the time, hoping that a few kind words will be welcome in someone’s mailbox instead of just junk mail and bills.
Love how you do this along with bill paying. How to make that chore more pleasant!! a great idea, Linda!!
I may not be able to accomplish the goal of a card/note per day, but this sounds like fun! The names of a few recipients have already come to mind. Thank you, Jean, for encouraging us to participate!
I think,Nancy even just one card will be enough, I am going to start with one but bet I end up with more.
Good point–one is better than none! (And now one is done!)
I don’t care if the greeting card industry came up with this idea or not, because I think it’s a great one! I’m going to definitely send notes to the grandchildren and other family members who live far away and who I really miss. Count me in on this one!
Blessings, Jean!
I agree! So glad you are joining me with sending a new notes this week, Martha. I thought it was a lovely idea!
thank you jean…you are so right…everyone needs to know they are being thought abt…amazing how God thinks abt us all the time…
peace
This is such a good practice, don’t you think? and yes you are right – God thinks about us all the time. Great reminder, Pat!!
