Where are you?
Where are you?
When Adam and Eve hid after eating from the tree, God walked in the garden and gently called, “Where are you?” Genesis 3: 9
Of course, God knew where they were hiding. He already knew what happened. He knew their sin. He knew just how they were feeling. He knew.
Yet He called to them.
He came to them.
He sought them in the garden.
Where are you?
This question haunts my morning devotions. I hear God asking me the same thing.
Where are you?
With a deep sigh, I try to answer the question. The process centers my thoughts to the present moment and helps me identify what I am feeling.
Where are you?
Sometimes I am alone and lonely.
Sometime I am alone and at peace.
Sometimes I am at a place where I feel safe.
Sometimes I feel scared, hovering in the corner of an empty room.
Sometimes no matter how hard I try or cry, I can’t find you, Lord.
But You come searching for me, just like you did in the Eden’s garden.
“Where are you?” God asks.
I am here, Lord. Thank you for finding me.
So glad to have all of your comments. Where are you? is a powerful question to ask ourselves and to ponder how God would ask us that question. It is STILL a question I hold up in my prayers and listening to God.
Wonderful post Jean… Wherever we are, whatever season we’re in, God knows us and still calls to His Children no matter the circumstance. I pray that we all focus on intently listening for His Call, and responding with praises on our lips.
Have a Blessed Day!
Somehow I imagine God used that question to help bring Adam and Eve to their senses. He asked them where they were and they had to look around to see just how far off track they’d gotten. I think God still asks that question to get our attention – to make us look around to see just where we are. Sometimes, I have to admit, my answer to that question is, “Oh my goodness! How in the world did I end up over here?”
Excellent post and question..God calls for us as well what answer will we give when He calls us?
Where am I? Sometimes I don’t know. I’m so glad and amazed that He does!
This was beautiful. Where am I? Something that I have been pondering these last few weeks while I was wandering. I am so thankful that He does come and seek us.
Glad to see you at SDG today! I love when God asks us questions (well, sometimes I love this — depends on the question) that help us further along in our journey, and ultimately, draw us closer to Him.
Excellent question. I need to stop and let the Holy Spirit help me answer.
Oh I love this! We may be scared and lonely. We may be feeling lost, but God comes looking for us. And we can say, thank you for finding me. Amen! Great post!
great question – great post…thanks
