Some of us are still celebrating with family.
Some of us are already packing away all the holiday decorations.
Some of us are still on vacation mode not quite ready to go back to work.
Some of us, pastors, law enforcement, EMT’S, nurses, never got the day off. (Thank you!)
Some of us are still eating.
Some of us faced the reality of the scale already.
Some of us can’t quite grasp the end of the year.
Some of us can’t wait to get rid of 2022 and move onto 2023.
But we all look at the calendar and see 2022 quickly ending and December almost gone.
I found this great song by Matthew West that seemed very appropriate for this week of in-betweeness. So take a moment, hit the pause button and listen to these lyrics. Such a great reminder.
“Day After Christmas”
Here comes the letdown Christmas is over
Here comes the meltdown, there goes the cheer
But before we have a breakdown, let us remember
The light of the world is still here
Happy day after Christmas
And merry rest of the year
Even when Christmas is over
The light of the world is still here
The light of the world
Come January I’m ready for summer
The Super Bowl’s over and I’ll settle for spring
Sometimes we all need a change in the weather
But it won’t change the reason we sing
Happy day after Christmas
And merry rest of the year
Even when Christmas is over
The light of the world is still here
The light of the world
The light of the world
The light of the world
So take down the stockings, take back the sweaters
Take down the lights and the star and the tree
But don’t let this world take your joy after Christmas
Take joy to the world and just sing
Happy day after Christmas
And merry rest of the year
Even when Christmas is over
The light of the world is still here
The light of the world
May the true Light of the World brighten you everyday!
Wonderful lyrics that bring a bit of humor to this in-between time with a bit of anticlimax around the edges–but also good cheer because our ever-present Jesus will be with us in the new year. Thank you for sharing this, Jean!
Yes it is good cheer and fun to read. May 2023 be filled with blessings!
Our Christmas lights and decorations will stay up through Epiphany, Jean, but I pray the joy that Christmas brings each day will carry us in hope throughout the New Year.
Blessings!
I know lots of people who keep the decorations up to Jan 6. Not a practice here – I like to start the new year all decluttered and ready to go. I think it goes back to working full-time and using the extra time the week between when I was off work more, Habits are hard to die, aren’t they? LOL
thank you jean…a blessed new year to you…
Happy New Year to you too, Pat!
