Dear Friends, this isn’t my typical Sunday blog post but have been traveling and got behind in my writing. Then today I stumbled across this lovely prayer that touched my heart. Perhaps it will resonate with you too. Blessings!
Dear God, I cannot love Thee the way I want to.
You are the slim crescent of a moon that I see and myself is the earth’s shadow that keeps me from seeing all the moon.
The crescent is very beautiful and perhaps that is all one like I am should or could see;
but what I am afraid of, dear God, is that my self shadow will grow so large that it blocks the whole moon, and that I will judge myself by the shadow that is nothing.
I do not know you God because I am in the way.
Please help me to push myself aside.
Flannery O’Connor
Don’t you just love F. O’Conner’s writings? So many times they have spoken truth in my heart. I need to remember to get out of God’s way so He can do His work. I’m praying with you, “Push me to the side…” ~Pamela
wonderful writing for sure. This prayer really resonated with me too
Perfectly said! Thanks for sharing Jean!
Thanks for stopping by Laura!
We too often stand in our own way . . . great reminder to let go and let God!
This prayer resonated deeply with my heart too. Thanks Martha
Hi Jean,
This is lovely! I saw something similar on a card once: “Barn’s burnt down…Now I can see the moon.” Great pairing with F. O’Connor. As always, I am enlarged by what you write and share. Thank you for your great heart and sharing your gift. I feel like I have found someone on the same path: I have an “Aha” poke or jolt or hug almost every post! Praying for and with you, Sister.
Thank you for your kind words. You encouraged me!!
Oh, yes! To step out of the way and into God’s shadow! Thank you, Jean!
wasn’t it a great prayer, Lynn? I know it resonated with me. thanks Lynn
