This Advent prayer was written by one of my Lamplighters, mentors, and guides – Henri Nouwen. The words shape my morning prayers in this season. May this prayer bless you too.
Lord Jesus,
Master of both the light and the darkness,
send your Holy Spirit upon our preparations for Christmas.
We who have so much to do and seek quiet spaces
to hear your voice each day,
We who are anxious over many things look forward
to your coming among us.
We who are blessed in so many ways long
for the complete joy of your kingdom.
We whose hearts are heavy seek
the joy of your presence.
We are your people, walking in darkness, yet seeking the light.
To you we say, “Come Lord Jesus!’
Amen.
What advent prayer lights your way right now?
PS: Advent is a great time to pause, listen to God, and draw closer to the Creator and Gifter of all things. Many people chose to read a special Advent book during this season, and I will humbly mention Christmas Crossroads – 30 Devotionals for the Advent Season that I wrote a couple of years ago.
I’m not doing a particular Advent book or study this year, so I appreciate reading the offerings of my blogging friends like you, Jean!
Until you mentioned it I didn’t realize I never started a specific book or study this year either. I am just plain enjoying quiet times of reading this season. I sure do enjoy your blog too!!
I too am appreciative you shared this beautiful prayer. Jean. Nouwen has such a pointed way of speaking our thoughts before we’re even aware of them!
I remembered both of us are Nouwen fans!
I don’t have any of his books, but always appreciate his quotes you share here!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful Advent Prayer. I strongly suggest anyone looking for an Advent book, to seriously consider your book. I will reread it again in a future Advent Season.
I look forward to my time to prepare and quiet my mind in preparation for Christ coming on Christmas day.
ahh thank you so much Denise. Your words encourage me!
Beautiful prayer, Jean. God bless you richly in this season of Advent!
Blessings on your season too, Martha!
thank you jean…not a prayer but a very deep feeling of accompanying Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem…i know that sounds weird…but thats it.
Not weird at all. All Jesus!
