Words of Comfort
Keeping it simple today by sharing this blessing and comforting words.
Life has been rough this past week due to an unexpected death. So I am resting and being with God. Probably writing this post more for me than you today – but sharing my heart with you.
I am reminded of the classic story called Footprints in the Sand. I know I am being carried at this time:
Footprints in the Sand
One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only.
This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord,
“You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”
The Lord replied, “The years when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when I carried you.”
Mary Stevenson, 1936
Remember God surrounds us all the time.
You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
Psalm 139: 5
My breath prayer for this week:
“Lord, I believe. Please help my unbelief”
(Mark 9:24)
Christ, as a light
illumine and guide me.
Christ, as a shield
overshadow me.
Christ under me;
Christ over me;
Christ beside me
on my left and my right.
This day be within and without me,
lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.
Be in the heart of each to whom I speak;
in the mouth of each who speaks unto me.
This day be within and without me,
lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.
Christ as a light;
Christ as a shield;
Christ beside me
on my left and my right.

What helps you hold onto God during difficult times?
With Martha, I too am so sorry, Jean, and will pray that God’s sweet comfort and presence will assuage the bitter loss. Years ago when a friend was killed in a car accident, I clung to Romans 11:33-36, especially the last verse. I trusted (in the midst of my unbelief) that somehow God would use her death for his glory. One of the blessings of heaven will be learning how he did just that–not just for my friend, but for countless others through the centuries.
Thanks Nancy – your words mean much to my heart.
So, so sorry for your loss, Jean. I will definitely keep you in my prayers. Thank you so much for the comforting prayers you’ve posted here today. Blessings, dear one!
Thank you for your kinds words, Martha. Each day gets a little better
