Sacred Surroundings, Finding Grace in Every Place is born!
Sacred Surroundings is my latest book and man oh man, has this work been through ups and downs, and twists and turns but wouldn’t let go and die. Sometimes as a writer a book takes on its own life – demanding to be released at its own time and in its own way. This book is my stubborn, resilient baby – insisting to live.
Celebrate with me today if you will. Here is some basic info about this book now available on Amazon both as an e-book and print editions.
What is Sacred Surroundings about?
We go through life so blind to God’s presence all around us and experiencing God’s love and peace is hard to find. Sacred Surroundings is about how our places teach us. Our surroundings shape us. Our outer and inner geographies become key teachers and guides, inviting us to learn new lessons and open our eyes to see God in all places.
Recognizing God’s presence around us is even more difficult in times of transition, change, and upheaval yet all places are holy – we are embraced in sacred surroundings.
Why did you write this book?
I wrote Sacred Surroundings to help people discover that the space surrounding and within all is holy ground. There never a place we go without God being with us. Psalm 139:7-10 says, Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast
Finding the holy is challenging especially during the upheaval of transitions and changes. For many years I was blind to God’s grace in all my places after being uprooted to live in a new town, far different from my comfortable familiar spot. The move not only altered my external environment but took my inner world into turmoil.
- I couldn’t see or hear God in these new landscapes.
- Doubts and depression affected my identity.
- Disorientation and feeling overwhelmingly lost became my norm.
- I didn’t belong anywhere.
With hindsight, lessons, and more maturity, I discovered God’s compass and now know this is home. I changed places, then the places changed me. I found grace in every place.
What will the reader learn in this book?
Sacred Surroundings invites you to explore external and internal landscapes and to gain insights about how our spaces shape us through the eight points of a compass. These were insights I discovered during and after my time of blindness to seeing God in all my surroundings. I discovered when thinking, be aware of and using these points, my eyes and my heart opened to God’s grace in every place.
The eight compass points are:
- Be awake
- Be curious
- Be discerning
- Be receptive
- Be connected
- Be growing
- Be honoring
- Be*holding.
These foundational principles help us see the sacred significance in our physical and spiritual geographies and discover God’s amazing grace no matter our location.
