O living God, soften us!
Let the fire of Your love
thaw the frost within us.
Let the light of Your justice
sear away our blindness.
Let the grace of Your compassion
heal our hardened spirits.
O living God, soften us!
That, flowing with Your grace,
we be impelled to face the world
in bold compassion,
that, driven to justice,
we may dare to cry aloud
for the little ones,
the raped,
the beaten,
the imprisoned,
and the hungry.
O living God, soften us!
Sweep us forward
in a Mighty Wave of Mercy
to heal our darkened world.

How do you increase the compassion in your heart for others? What has worked for you in the past? What would you like to try to do differently as you learn to love others more fully? Have you ever prayed to have God soften your heart?
Which line moves you the most? My favorite line which has become a breath prayer for me is: Let the fire of Your love thaw the frost within us. The image of God’s fire thawing the frost within my cold heart moves me deeply.

Thanks for your kind comment, Stephanie. I certainly agree with you about loving those on the margins, Just like Jesus did. Glad you stopped by
Amen! Great prayer, Jean! Thank you!
I think that prayer was beautiful and so inspiring. I loved it. Thank you for posting it. Followed you from SITS. Have a blessed day. I suggest you check out my site Living Stone Faith at http://vickimtaylor.blogspot.com I’d like to add your site to my “recommended links”, if that is okay.
Beautiful! One of my favorite passages is when Jesus told his disciples to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, etc. Too often I feel like Christians turn a blind eye to those in our society who scare them are are just too undesirable. Stopping by from SITs Sat Sharefest.
