Jesus said to her,” Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but those who drink of the water that I will give will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.”
John 4: 13-14
Lord, you amaze me.
You approached the Samaritan woman – unheard of in your time – to asked her for her water.
You knew what would happen.
You knew her better than she knew herself.
You knew her sin.
Yet you still came to her in her place and time and spoke to her in a way she understood. You spoke about water to a thirsty person.
I know you approach me too in my place of need.
You come to me without me first asking. You are already here.
You know exactly what will be happening next in my journey.
You know me better than I know myself.
You know my sin.
Yet you still come to me here, in this place and in the perfect time when my heart will soften and I will hear your words with the ears of my heart.
I thirst for more of you, Lord. I am dry and parched for your message of hope and life.
I deeply crave that never-ending spring of life within me – one not only to satisfy me temporarily but for all eternity.
Gush into my life, Lord. Pour your wisdom into my heart. May I forever flow in your grace-filled stream of living water.
This is really beautiful. I love this gospel passage. It is one of my favorites. I think I can relate to the Samaritan woman – her thirst and her need to be loved and understood. Thank you!
such a meaningful passage too. One I contemplated on for quite awhile on my silent retreat.
Hi Jean,
Amen…prayed with you…how encouraging to know He already knows and yet He loves and invites us anyway 🙂 Glad you made it back home safely 🙂
Thanks for praying with me, Dolly. Glad to be home safely too
Hi Jean! So many wonderful things to learn from that encounter at Jacob’s well. Being filled with the water of grace and power is something I think we all want. I want to be empowered to do his will for me. That would be the best ‘fill’ of all!
Without him, I would just wither. I don’t want that. I want to say to Jesus, just like the woman: Give me this living water sir, that I may never thirst again!
Blessings my friend,
Ceil
Hi Ceil. This story is so powerful sin’t it. It was one that I contemplated on my silent retreat. So many lessons to uncover. Let’s keep thirst for him friend!
He knows the very water we thirst for and he provides it. Beautiful. I’ve been memorizing and meditating on Isaiah 55 for several weeks now, and the imagery of water and thirst is very strong there. This week’s verse is Isaiah 55:10 about God sending the water from heaven giving us bread to eat and seed to sow. I thank him for that Living Water!
I’ve been following your Isaiah 55 adventure. Just signed up today for a Bible story telling conference. I think they memorized scripture there too. maybe i can find a method that really works for me. There is something so powerful about water, especially living water.
Amen! May the sluice gates spring open and release those waters of Life into your life and mine!
won’t that be fun – splash in God’s life giving water together?
LOL You bet! 😀
